MEKKA DON IN THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION JOURNAL

Well the ABA (American Bar Association Journal), one of the largest journals for lawyers who have passed the bar caught wind of my story and published it in their ABA JOURNAL LAW NEWS NOW. I was interested in seeing what the true feelings of what my former peers thought about my decision. I received a mixture of support and criticism, which I accepted would happen. I respect people's right to have an opinion but I would prefer if people would take the time to make an educated critique. Here is a comment left on the you tube page. I feel compelled to answer because it bothers me that someone so educated would make so many statements with no factual evidence to support them. I have thick skin and don't want to seem overly sensitive but I had to call this one out. I would like you guys to weigh in on this issue, whether through commenting or emailing me. I want to thank the ABA Journal for taking the time to write abuot me and giving my movement publicity.

"If hadn't seen the Oprah show with Bill Cosby, check it out. I think you are going in the wrong direction at least from a role model standpoint. But if it's the money you are worried about it's probably better that you are not a practicing attorney because it would be a matter or time before you did something unethical."

Here is my response:
Thank you for viewing. I hope you've taken the time to listen to my music, and hopefully you had done so done so before you left your comment. If you haven't, I would encourage you to do so.
First I'll say, if this was about money for me, I wouldn't have left a job that was paying me 200K a year at age 24.

I do not believe that being intelligent/educated and being a hip hop artist are mutually exclusive. Additionally, I do not believe that being a lawyer ( I still practice, fyi) and being a hip hop artist are mutually exclusive. If done right, I also believe that a hip hop artist CAN be a positive role model.
As for the money and ethics statements, some of the most corrupt and unethical people I have encountered in my life are in corporate America - some lawyers. This is free market, capitalist America...everybody wants to make money. It's not what you do, it's how you do it.

Finally, the reason why I am in Hip Hop is because I do believe that Hip Hop needs a new movement - a breathe of fresh air if you will. My perspective needs to be heard. I do this for the youth, not the money.

But at the end of the day, I have to answer to God, and that's all that matters to me.

Sup Mekka,
I am truly touched by your words, I a serious person when you look at him or her in the eye and in their voice. I might not be a nobody but I believe you will go far with the hip-hop if you continue working towards the better of the people, allowing your music speak the voice of the people, representing what you are too scared, ashamed to say. Doing a good job going back in time in history and bringing the dreams of those who fought and give their lives for use to have the little freedom we have today. Continue doing what you believe is right.
God Bless and Good luck
