THE NEW FACE OF NEW YORK

The headlines have been filled with bad news about Eliot Spitzer, the governor of New York who will be resigning in the face of scandal. However, there is a great story being overwhelmed by the negativity. The man set to replace him is a trailblazer. His name is David Patterson. David Patterson had two strikes against him
1.) He is African American
2.) He Is Legally Blind

Paterson is set to be the first blind governor in the history of the US , and the first African American governor of New York. He also will be only the fourth African American governor in United States History. He has the respect and trust of his fellow politicians and is known to be an overall good guy. Added to that he has a great sense of humor. When asked what the job of the Lieutenant Governor of New York's job entailed Paterson responded: " You wake up every morning at 6:30 AM and you call the Governor's house. If he answers, you can go back to sleep." Congratulations Mr. Paterson, I know this is not the ideal way to become governor but your track record shows success in the face of adversity. Good Luck.
