THE ROOT: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY'S FUNNY MONEY

If you're thinking about getting into the music business for the money think again. The Root broke down the money trail for artists and found that the average musician makes a whopping $23.40 for every $1000 sold. To put this into perspective Nielsen research shows that only 2.1 % of albums released in 2009 sold 5000 or more records. That's about 2,050 out of the 100,0000 albums released that year. Check the chart for the break down above. Although this looks gloomy maybe it can be a boon for hip hop, filtering out those simply trying to make a buck, and keeping those who are in it for the love.
