MEKKA DON WINS MTVU FRESHMAN/WEEK IN LANDSLIDE

Mekka Don won this week's MTVu Freshman of the week competition,in true David vs. Goliath fashion. Mekka Don proved that nothing beats a strong grassroots campaign of loyal fans, as he beat out several artists signed to major labels, with major features, in a landslide, taking 88% of the total vote. The MTVu competition pitted artists MTV selected to be on the lookout for against each other in a one week voting contest. The winner receved a spot on MTVu's video rotation permanently. Following the competition MTV published an article stating "Mekka Don ruled this Freshman Godfather Style, " and that he went all "Don Corleone on the competition." In response Mekka Don said "I'm glad those weren't my words, I might have had issues with La Cosa Nostra ha. On a serious note, I'm extremely humbled by my fans support and the response the video received. As an artist there's no greater reward than people embracing and liking your music whole heartedly. I couldn't have done this without my fans and I'm extremely thankful to MTVu for giving us the opportunity. "

MEKKA DON NAMED MTVU FRESHMAN AND ENTERED INTO COMPETITION

It's been a long time coming. This week, Mekka Don (@MekkaDonMusic on twitter) has been named an "MTVu FRESHMAN" as a result of his new smash single and video "Dirty", which is currently available on iTunes. Mekka Don has been pitted against four other major artists in a competition for additional airplay. Voting begins Monday (3/5) at 11 am and ends Friday (3/9) at 2 pm.

“It’s an incredible honor to be named an MTVu Freshman and to have the opportunity to have my video seen on the MTV family of networks. Every artist dreams of the day that their video gets on MTV and I’m humbled and in a little bit of shock that mine came at this point in my career, "says Mekka Don.
