NFL Draft Week 2013 Recap

The NFL Draft is one of my favorite events because I love football and the events surrounding it are AMAZING.  This draft week was filled with events, networking, red carpet, and even an opportunity for me to be philanthropic (on my low level lol).  I got a chance to chop it up with NFLPA Director DeMaurice Smith (potential partners in the future! *fingers crossed*), newly drafted NY Jets Quarterback Geno Smith (cool dude), and Baltimore Ravens safety and Super Bowl champ James Ihedigbo and former NFLer Tutan Reyes at their charity event!  Shout out to two great foundations (Hope Africa and Beyond the Boroughs) - Check them out!  Also shout out to all of the draft picks, including my Buckeyes who were drafted (Hankins, Simon, and Fragel - lol sounds like an old school folk group!)  Check out the pics...Mekka Don was definitely in the building!

Mekka Don Inks Deal With Big Ten Network for Conference Tournament

With the Big Ten being widely recognized as the best basketball conference in the country this year, many sports enthusiasts are looking forward to Big Ten Tournament to see who will emerge as the best in the best conference. Many analysts believe the Big Ten will have six or more teams in the NCAA Tournament, and at least four teams from the conference have been ranked in the top five nationally this year. The intersection of music and sports is prominently on display during high profile sporting events. Almost every sports arena has a DJ; players submit playlists to be played during warmups; and networks license music to help create excitement for their broadcasting. Mekka Don, an independent hip-hop artist and former NCAA athlete (Ohio State football), has inked a multi-song licensing deal with the Big Ten Network to provide music for the upcoming Big Ten Tournament games and coverage. The Big Ten Tournament begins on March 14th on the Big Ten Network. Mekka Don, who has licensed music to several other outlets including ESPN, the Big East Network, Fox Sports Ohio and others says, “I am really excited to be a part of this. Being a former athlete, I definitely understand how music can add to the overall sporting experience. Mekka Don and Philly P " The Real" prod. by AU

When we were down in Columbus recently we had to connect with the homies Philly P and the Audio Unit and get in the lab. The experiment resulted in "The Real." The track is all Ohio all around. AU uses an Ohio Players sample on the beat, and Philly P and Mekka Don show the nation that Ohio's definitely got some real spitters. Check the track below.

OSU/Mekka Don Basketball Promo Debuts at Michigan State game!

This past Sunday at the Ohio State v. Michigan State game, the promo video I did with the basketball team debuted on the Jumbotron. My song "Let's Go (O-H-I-O)" (available on iTunes) was featured in the video. The video also featured the infamous Nuthouse (OSU students section), OSU cheerleaders, and Brutus. The Let's Go O-H-I-O shirt I'm wearing is courtesy of HOMAGE. We're told the video will be shown again at the Illinois game on March 10th. We'll also release it online shortly. Stay tuned. Go Bucks!

I am truly grateful for to everyone who came out to my show at Skully's on February 11th! It's difficult to get people to come out at all...especially on a MONDAY in Columbus. But we definitely put on a show...video coming soon! #PilotBoys

Performance at the Ohio State v. Indiana game!

Although OSU lost, I had a blast performing at the OSU v. Indiana game! The crowd was amped up and Buckeyes definitely have the best fans in the land!

Yesterday was surreal. Growing up as a Section 80 baby(shouts to kendrick lamar), Sway is a hip hop icon, someone I saw on MTV and dreamed of being interviewed by. Having the opportunity to be on his show was both a huge honor and a humbling experience. To get his respect as an artist and have my music be validated by his listeners only made the opportunity that much more memorable.
